Jēkaba diena – July 25th – The Master’s Day and New Bread
Jēkaba diena marks the end of Midsummer's peak and the beginning of the harvest season. For ancient Latvians, this was a pivotal day when the first loaf of rye bread, baked from the new grain, was brought to the table. It is a time of satisfaction, where hard work turns into abundance. This day is about honoring the land and blessing the fruits of one's labor.
Traditional beliefs:
Winter forecast: If Jēkaba diena is warm and sunny, expect a cold and snowy Christmas.
Rain: Rain on this day suggests that the autumn's nuts and acorns will be of poor quality.
Sharing: Sharing your first loaf of new bread with others ensures that your home will remain prosperous and full throughout the year.
